Fairbairn Water Treatment Plant Expansion

Fairbairn Water Treatment Plant Expansion

Sacramento, CA

The Fairbairn WTP Expansion is a classic example of how relatively small buildings can exhibit unique characteristics associated with concrete block masonry.

Included in the expansion were the Chemical building and Filter building consisting of contrasting colors and offset orientation of 8 inch split-face concrete masonry units. Pilasters 24" wide encase the lighter recessed units casting an accent shadow. Concrete block units were custom cut at the top of walls to provide the radius, a significant departure from the typical masonry design.

This is another display of how the creative designer can achieve aesthetic appeal while maintaining absolute symmetry.
